ColorHub review

As a video and social agency, we know the importance of visual representation. As mentioned in this week’s newsletter, 65% of people under 30 years old value a company's online presence over their physical presence. Colour is perhaps the most important visual tool in the creative shed. Your brand’s reception will be heavily dictated by the colours you choose to represent it. With that in mind, this week we’re looking at ColorHub, a colour palette builder and previewer, for you to perfect your brand’s landing pages. Let’s delve in a little deeper.

This is a free and simple tool, with a simple purpose. One-dimensional, maybe - but that is by no means a criticism, there are lots of apps and services these days that beg, borrow and steal off of each other (remember Fleets?) so something with a bit of originality and independence is great to see. ColourHub requires no signup, which is nice - just go to the site and start trying out the palettes. As shown below, there are three steps, and it’s very straightforward. ‘Select a Palette’, ‘Edit & Preview’, then ‘Export CSS’, bish, bash, bosh. There are a plethora of custom palettes to choose from - comprised of four colours, each of which can be customised at the ‘Edit & Preview’ stage. There are many moods attributed to colour palettes, blue tones are seen as friendly, sociable and loyal - hence why so many social media channels use it… so bear in mind what type of tone you want to set when people see your brand. But we’re not going to tell you how to live your life, you do you.

ColorHub is the brainchild of Daniel Cranney, a developer, designer and filmmaking teacher, his career knowledge has been poured into this tool and you can sense this as you use the service. Its interface is cool, clear and UX-focused. We’re not saying every custom palette is perfect for branding, but the variety has been researched, developed and showcased with an aesthetic we really enjoy. Once you’ve played around with the hex codes and have a style/styles you think best represents your brand - you’re ready to export. Click ‘Export CSS’ in the top right then copy the code from the central window on the page. Paste this code directly into your website/project and watch your brand start to take shape, its new skin building up its image and in turn, hopefully, its awareness!

ColourHub is free, easy and focussed. Its mission-driven and unlimited in its use. We don’t think it can do any better in itself. We thoroughly recommend you try it out, we think it’s great!

ColorHub, lovely stuff. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼/5!
