Photopea review

For many, photo editing is a standard in their job, but the costs of services with photo editing features can often be on the large side. Young budding designers often struggle to hone their craft just by being priced out. Well our tool of the week review is for a potential game changer. Photopea is a website that might just solve the problem. It has been around since 2013, and provides a pretty impressive service. Free and unlimited online raster graphics editing in .psd, .xcf, Sketch, .xd and .cdr formats!

Photopea on the surface has acquired its interface (virtually like-for-like we might add) from Photoshop - so they make no bones about what they’re trying to emulate. But in our eyes, that’s a good thing, for those trained in photoshop will have no issues transitioning over to Photopea, and vice versa. Although you can create an account, there is no signup required to use Photopea, and no hidden fees, just go to the website and start your edits! To start a new project, click File then New Project and select the dimensions you want for your image, or alternatively select a template for the image you want to create, Photopea has dimensions for Facebook headers, Twitter profiles and everything in between. Photopea includes layering, channels, layer masks, paths, selections, layer styles, smart objects, filters and vector images, it’s very Photoshop! Photopea additionally offers a pretty decent array of editing tools, like the patch, clone stamp healing brush and spot healing.

Photopea is ideal for small projects, as it provides tutorials and doesn’t require the disc space that the likes of Photoshop does. With it being all online you can save all your images for the web or share them straight to your socials, website etc. There is no limit in Photopea’s functionality, and the quality of work you can produce on Photopea is down to you! There are some downsides naturally, it is somewhat lethargic as a service compared to a native image editor. Most processes take up to a minute to render, sometimes longer in fact, and the zoom function isn’t as smooth as you would find in a native editor. But it’s free… so there isn’t much room to complain in that respect.

All in all, Photopea is an excellent free vector graphics editor, all on the web, requires no installations, no downloads, it’s ideal for small, quick projects and for those without access to pricier native edit software, it’s definitely worth trying out! Even if just for fun.

Photopea, you get 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼/5!
