tuneX review

Let’s face it, we all like to ‘discover’ a band, tell our friends about it, claim we liked them before they were cool or famous. Call it a social quota, a need to perceive worth in emotional and cultural ways, rather than just through personal wealth. Well brand new for 2021 is an app designed to fill your new music needs. tuneX is a tinder-style app that lets you ‘like’, ‘dislike’ an artist's music, message artist’s about their content and submit your own music to tuneX’s catalogue. Cool!

To use tuneX, you need to sign up, it’s completely free and requires no card details so you know you won’t be getting stung later down the line! Once in, you’re free to explore! tuneX uses a built-in generator to share a new song and artist with you, whether it’s a soundcloud or youtube embed, you’ll get music. You need to give at least ten seconds of your time to a track before you can vote, once you’ve chosen ‘like’ or ‘dislike’, tuneX automatically plays a new track, could be the same artist, could be another, as far as we can tell it’s completely random.

It’s important to note that for listeners, tuneX is very new, therefore so are many of its artists. Due to its nature of user submittals for content, naturally a lot of the music you find is lo-fi, garage, unrefined, however you choose to label it. Personally, we love lo-fi, it has an authenticity that rather ironically, a track with high production value often lacks. If you have some kind words (or critiques) you wish to share with an artist, simply leave a message under the track and it will appear in the artist’s ‘Messages’ tab.

For artists, simply upload your tracks via a URL from soundcloud or youtube, and accompany your upload with a track title, tuneX doesn’t allocate space for .mp3 files hosted on the site, so far just links. Content providers have three tabs they should pay attention to, ‘Submit’, ‘Your Songs’ and ‘Messages’, this is how you manage and assess your account’s content, we would hope many listeners would provide messages for artists so you know what you’re doing right, and wrong in the hopes of advancing your musical career.

We’ve listened to some great music on tuneX already, and we will definitely be using it from now on, we’re cultural hipsters here at Creator Tools Weekly, and we love being ahead of the curve. tuneX is simple, the site could do with some stylistic ‘oomph’ as it gets more traction, but it’s a great app with an honest purpose. There is certainly some filler on the site, but that’s natural, it’s new music. And everything is down to personal preference at the end of the day.

tuneX, we like it! You get 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼/5!
