Client: Irwin Mitchell
Service: Video
Irwin Mitchell is one of the UK’s leading law firms offering legal services all over the world. We produced this video as part of the company’s I Am Able campaign, which highlights inspiring stories of some of the company’s personal injury and medical negligence clients.
Meet Jason
Our video tells Jason’s story. In 2012 while on holiday with his family, Jason was cycling when he was hit by a car. He broke his back, ribs, legs, and severed his spine. His life was changed forever. Doctors told him he would never walk again.
Months of rehabilitation followed, with Jason spending lots of time in the gym, something he enjoyed and that helped with his recovery. Then in March 2018, he was able to use his compensation settlement to order a unique ‘exoskeleton’, a powered frame that allows Jason to walk independently for short periods.
Day in the life
One of the key motivations for Jason was to return to as near a normal daily life as possible. The exoskeleton has been key to making that possible. For our video, we invited Jason to share a ‘day in the life’, where he could share his experience in his own words.
Our interview with Jason in his home is combined with footage of him running the family coach service business, working out in the gym and eating with his family in their local cafe. Throughout filming, we wanted to make sure Jason felt comfortable – he was a fantastic, positive and upbeat interviewee.
On location
The video was shot on a Sony FS7, which allowed us to be mobile and reactive using natural light wherever possible. We felt it was important for the narrative to be focused entirely on Jason’s journey. That’s why we spent time getting to know him and decided to shoot the entire video on location in familiar environments.
As with the entire I Am Able campaign from Irwin Mitchell, the aim was to put the spotlight on ability not disability. The video celebrates Jason’s incredible courage and determination. We currently have a second campaign video in production.
