Horae review

We all sit on the sofa late in the day and wonder where on earth all the time went, work takes up most of our time and sometimes we neglect ourselves in the hours before and after. Well a new player has entered the game, and their name is Horae - the new work/life logging app to help you manage your days, and how you could improve your freetime! Horae is so named after the Greek goddess of seasons, and natural portions of time, so props for the mythology nod.

[Horae is currently exclusive to Android, but this may change in the future.]

Similar to last week’s review of Screen - this app is fairly limited in terms of features and potential, so we won’t over-egg the pudding. After downloading the app from the Playstore, open the app and you’ll be greeted by a white screen, black text and a simple message, “We care about YOUR life”. As touching as this is, so should you. Once in to Horae, you’ll be prompted to add in when you want to update your daily log of where and how your hours were spent (we chose 10pm).

We don’t know about you, but we often find our time outside of work isn’t very scheduled - and on certain days we may be in front of a screen for 12+ hours straight! That’s where Horae comes in, the theory is by logging how long you spend doing certain activities, you will acknowledge (and help tackle) any potential imbalances you find within your work/life harmony. And we think it works! We were able to identify where time away from screens could be acquired, and where those hours could be put to better use. For example - (the big one) outdoor exercise. Many of us have adopted home workout routines during the past 12 months, but that will never replace fresh air in the lungs and our eyes focusing on the world around us, instead of a 13” screen on your dining table.

But Horae doesn’t just help you pull away from your phone, TV or laptop - quality time with a significant other, housemate, parents may have fallen by the wayside without you even realising it. Like any scheduling service, Horae helps you prioritise. But in a more intrinsic and physiological sense. An aid for you to realign your life, to find a focused path for your mental and physical health, and a more genuine connection to those close to you. And for those of you working remotely - it may even help you optimise how and when you do your job.

All in all, it’s a scheduling app - but for the soul. An introspective assessment for your physical and mental wellbeing, it may be pretty lean on features but it serves one purpose, to help you better your life. And it just might do that.

Horae, you get 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼/5.
